The Cameroon Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (CAMPHIA) began fieldwork in June 2017 and concluded in January 2018. CAMPHIA teams worked in all 10 regions of Cameroon under the guidance of the Ministry of Health, the National Institute of Statistics, CDC, and ICAP to provide confidential HIV counseling and testing to participants. Details on the findings, announced at AIDS 2018 in Amsterdam, can be found below.
Key Preliminary Findings
Key CAMPHIA preliminary findings among adults ages 15 to 64:
- HIV incidence: 0.27%
- HIV prevalence: 3.7%
- Viral load suppression: 44.7%
- 90-90-90: 46.9% of people living with HIV (ages 15 to 64) in Cameroon report knowing their status, 91.3% of those individuals self-report being on ART, and 80% of that group are virally suppressed
