The Zimbabwe Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (ZIMPHIA 2020) was a household-based national survey among adults (defined as individuals aged 15 years and older) conducted between November 2019 and March 2020 to measure the impact of the national HIV response. ZIMPHIA 2020 offered HIV counseling and testing with return of results to the participants and collected information about uptake of HIV care and treatment services.
This was the second ZIMPHIA in Zimbabwe to estimate national HIV incidence and national and subnational viral load suppression, defined as HIV RNA <1,000 copies per milliliter. The first ZIMPHIA was conducted between October 2015 and August 2016. The results of these two surveys provide information on national and provincial progress toward HIV epidemic control.
The survey also collected information on selected behaviors associated with HIV acquisition and transmission, on common HIV comorbidities, and other health conditions.
Note that on January 21, 2022, corrections were made to Table 13.3, Figure 13.3, and related data points in the Executive Summary about HIV testing in tuberculosis clinics. In addition, on September 1, 2023, an updated report was posted containing revisions to Table 11.5 and changes to related estimates in the Executive Summary.
